Ontario invited a total of 1,084 candidates with profiles in the province’s Expression of Interest (EOI) pool. Invited candidates qualified under either the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream, the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream, or the In-Demand Skills stream.

How do Ontario’s Employer Job Offer streams work?

Ontario hosts three Employer Job Offers streams, operated under their Provincial Nominee Program (OINP): the Foreign Workers stream, International Students stream, and the In-Demand Skills stream.

Individuals interested in applying must have a valid job offer with an Ontario employer in addition to meeting other stream-specific criteria.

Eligible candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile through OINP’s e-Filing Portal. Profiles are then ranked using Ontario’s points-based system, which is unique to each stream.

Those who meet the requirements of a draw will be invited to apply for nomination. Successful nominees may submit a federal application for Canadian permanent residence.

How does Ontario’s EOI points system work?

Ontario uses a ranking system to assign a score to Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles and determine who receives an invitation in EOI draws. The points system used will depend on the stream that a candidate qualifies under. For example, the International Student ranking system places more emphasis on education, while the Foreign Worker ranking system places more emphasis on work.

Ontario Nominations in 2021

The province of Ontario was allocated 8,350 nominations by the federal government, plus 250 nominations for temporary foreign workers in NOC skill level C. As of November 10, 2021, Ontario reached its quota and had issued 8,600 nominations for the year.

Despite receiving more newcomers than any other Canadian province, Ontario’s Labour Minister has asked the federal government to double their nominee allocation.

Ontario is facing a significant labour shortage. The solution, says Labour Minister McNaughton, is increased immigration. Minister McNaughton wants to double the number of immigrants allowed under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program from 9,000 to 18,000 per year to help fill job vacancies.

Ontario’s nominee quota has not yet been announced for 2022.
