A recent survey from IDP Connect has named Canada the top choice for post-secondary education for students around the globe, well ahead of the U.S., U.K. and Australia. A majority of respondents who chose Canada as a top option said that they prioritize the ability to work part-time while studying. Many others chose Canada based on affordability and cost of living.
Most of the students that completed the survey were also motivated by career opportunities in their study destination. The Canadian government offers a special work permit for international graduates that are looking to gain work experience in Canada after completing their post-secondary education. After obtaining Canadian work experience, there are many pathways available to international students who want to transition to Canadian permanent residence.
A recent Statistics Canada report has found that employment in Canada has increased and returned to pre-pandemic levels in September 2021. With the Canadian workforce aging and birth rates dropping, Canada looks to immigration as the solution. With record-high job vacancies, Canada welcomes international students with open arms for their ability to fill labour market needs and demographic gaps.
In 2018, five Canadian universities ranked in the top 100 for best in the world, according to the Times Higher Education World University Ratings. With top rated universities, affordability, and incredible quality of life, it’s no wonder more students are eyeing Canada as a leading choice for their post-secondary education.
