Given the dire situation in Lebanon right now, the government of Canada has put a temporary measure in place for those affected by the ongoing crisis in Lebanon. Eligible candidates can be granted an open work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit, or an extension to their temporary resident permit at no cost.
The government of Canada is also extending this temporary measure to the immediate family of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, regardless of their nationality, who have left Lebanon since this conflict began on September 29, 2024. A full list of who is eligible to apply can be found on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/lebanon-2023/canada-tr-measures.html
Considering the ongoing crisis, the IRCC has stated that files from Lebanon are receiving priority and have been making continuous effort to increase processing capacity for applications from the region. The IRCC is working to expedite the application process from all parties, whether it be Canadians, permanent residents, or their respective family members in Lebanon. These temporary measures will remain in effect from now until July 31, 2025.
Since the conflict began, the Canadian government has been doing its part to assist Canadians and permanent residents by coordinating commercial flight options out of Lebanon in effort to facilitate their departures. Over 1,200 Canadians, permanent residents and families used these options available to them.
The IRCC has not only been assisting those affected in the Lebanon crisis with immigration assistance, but also with financial support, settlement services, health coverage, language training, and employment assistance. By doing so, IRCC will assist newcomers with a smoother transition, ensuring they have the resources and support necessary to succeed in Canada and rebuild their lives. IRCC continues to take significant steps to address the diverse needs of these individuals. If you need any guidance and or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
