The second Express Entry draw for STEM workers was just held. Express Entry draw 274 saw a CRS score of 481 and invited 5,900 candidates eligible for category-based selection in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering (STEM) occupations.

Express Entry draw 274 issued 5,900 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of 481. Today’s draw was the second category-specific draw for STEM occupations. Meaning that all candidates for this draw were selected from a select number of NOC codes within the Express Entry pool, related to STEM occupations.
Today’s draw is the third consecutive draw of this week, marking a significant change from the absence of draws throughout the entire month of November. The Previous draw was a “French language proficiency (2023-1)” draw, which invited 1,000 candidates. All profiles in the Express Entry pool with a CRS score of 470 (yesterday’s cut-off score) or higher could qualify.
When we compare today’s draw with the previous one for the “STEM Occupations (2023-1)” category, which took place on July 5, 2023, where only 500 invitations were issued, and the CRS score was higher (requiring a minimum of 486 points), we observe that the number of invitations in today’s draw is much higher ( 5,900 issued invitations), even though the score is lower. This indicates that since July, more than 5000 applicants have managed to attain the minimum required score for this category and have successfully met the requirements set by IRCC.
Qualification for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Category
To qualify, you must:
- Have acquired a minimum of 6 months of continuous full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) in one of the occupations listed in the table below, within the last 3 years.
- This experience should have been gained either in Canada or abroad.
- Satisfy all the criteria outlined in the instructions specific to the current round.

Number of Candidates in the Current Express Entry Pool
The IRCC updates the number of people in the Express Entry pool a few days before an invitation round takes place. Numbers change as new profiles are submitted, profiles expire or are issued an ITA.
