Latest Draw

October 12th’s draw was the eighth Express Entry draw since resuming all program draws on July 6th.

Express Entry draw 233 issued 4,250 Invitations to Apply (ITA)  to candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of 500. There was no program specified for the draw, meaning that invitations were issued to candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

The most recent draw saw a 4-point CRS decrease and 500 more invitations issued compared to the previous draw. This is the lowest minimum CRS score since all program draws resumed in July.

The CRS has been gradually decreasing with each draw as the backlog of applications in the Express Entry pool is processed. Over the first five draws, scores decreased by eight or nine points for each draw. September 14 and September 28 each saw a decrease of only 6 points. The latest CRS saw a similar trend with a decrease of 4 points.

The number of ITA’s issued has also been increasing with each draw. Over the previous three draws, an additional 500 invitations to apply were issued, and Express Entry draw 233 saw an additional 500 invitations issued.

What is Express Entry and how can I apply?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residency. Express Entry uses a point-based system, the CRS to rank candidates’ profiles. The system manages three main programs:

Applying to Express Entry is a two-step process. The first step is to submit your profile with the required documents. Required documents usually consist of language test results, educational credentials and passport or travel documentation.

After you submit a profile and receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence, you can submit your complete application for the IRCC to review. Your complete application should include supporting documents such as reference letters, additional identity documents, police clearance certificates, and results of a medical examination.

Should I enter the Express Entry pool now?

Even if your CRS score is below 500, it is still a good idea to enter the Express Entry pool now.

One of the biggest reasons to enter the Express Entry pool is heightened visibility to Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). PNPs have become an increasingly popular immigration pathway recently. Over the next three years, more candidates are expected to immigrate through PNPs than all other Federal High Skilled Worker programs combined.

Provinces frequently use the Express Entry system to search for candidates that meet labour market or demographic needs. Candidates with in-demand work experience or those with high french language proficiency may have a higher chance of being selected for a PNP. These programs often invite eligible candidates directly from the Express Entry pool. That means, just by having a profile in the Express Entry pool, you have the chance of receiving an invitation from a province.

When will the next Express Entry draw be?

According to IRCC, all-program Express Entry draws will continue to be held on a bi-weekly basis. Following this schedule, the next anticipated all-program Express Entry draw will be October 26th, 2022.

It is likely that the CRS cut-off will likely continue to slightly decline as the IRCC continues to work to address backlog issues which have been a priority since resuming all program draws.
