Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program recently published results from their first draw of the year under the Alberta Express Entry stream.
Alberta invited candidates with CRS scores as low as 327 in its first draw of 2022. In the recently published January 5 draw results, Alberta issued invitations to a total of 250 Express Entry candidates.
Alberta’s latest draw targeted candidates eligible under the Alberta Express Entry stream, a Provincial Nominee Program stream operated by the province of Alberta.
To be considered under Alberta’s Express Entry stream, candidates must have an active profile in the federal Express Entry pool with a CRS score of at least 300, and a stated interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program does not release details on the additional criteria targeted in each Express Entry stream draw. However, they have stated that the following factors may increase a candidate’s chances:
Foreign nationals interested in immigrating to the province of Alberta through the AINP Express Entry stream must first create an Express Entry profile. To submit an Express Entry profile, candidates must be eligible for one of three Federal High Skilled Worker (FHS) programs:
Candidates in the Express Entry pool are assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score is based on factors such as age, work experience, education, language ability in French or English, and connections to Canada.
Individuals successfully nominated by Alberta under a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score. These additional points essentially guarantee an Invitation to Apply in a PNP-specific Express Entry draw.
Alberta recently released details of their new nominee program, the Accelerated Tech Pathway. The program provides a fast-tracked pathway to permanent residence for tech workers that want to live and work in Alberta.
The new immigration pathway operates through Alberta’s Express Entry stream. Candidates must work experience in one of 37 select tech occupations to be considered.
The number of tech companies in Alberta has more than doubled in the past few years. According to the CEO of MobSquad, Irfhan Rawji, the new program will “take Alberta from one of the hardest places to bring skilled professionals in Canada to the easiest place in the country to bring skilled professionals”
