CRS Finally Under 500 Points

October 26th’s draw was the ninth Express Entry draw since resuming all program draws on July 6th.

Express Entry draw 234 issued 4,750 Invitations to Apply (ITA)  to candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of 496. There was no program specified for the draw, meaning that invitations were issued to candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

The CRS has been steadily decreasing with each draw as the backlog of applications in the Express Entry pool is being processed. The most recent draw saw a  4 point CRS decrease. This is the first time that the CRS score has dipped below 500 points since all-program draws resumed in July.

The number of ITA’s issued has also been increasing with each draw. Express Entry draw 234 saw 500 more invitations issued compared to the previous draw. Over the previous three draws, an additional 500 invitations to apply were issued, and the most recent draw saw the same with 500 more ITA’s sent out.

CRS Score Distribution of Current Candidates

The following table shows the most recent distribution of candidates in the Express Entry pool. As of October 26th, there were a total of 235,120 in the Express Entry pool. The score distribution may change as people submit new profiles and other profiles expire.

What is Express Entry and how can I apply?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for Canadian permanent residency. Express Entry uses a point-based system, the CRS, to rank candidates’ profiles. The system manages three main programs:

Applying to Express Entry is a two-step procedure. The first step is to submit your profile with the required documents. Required documents usually consist of language test results, educational credentials and passport or travel documentation.

After you submit a profile and receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence, you can submit your complete application for the IRCC to review. Your complete application should include supporting documents such as reference letters, additional identity documents, police clearance certificates, and results of a medical examination.

Changes coming in Express Entry

Bill C-19 received approval in Parliament in June, and will give IRCC more authority to target Express Entry candidates based on specific work experience, education, or language abilities, rather than the current system of issuing ITAs to a wide range of candidates solely on their CRS scores.

Under the proposed changes of Bill C-19, candidates can be invited based on ‘groupings’ set out by the Minister of Immigration. Through this system, the minister can select candidates according to how they rank within their specific grouping.

The groupings will be established based on an economic goal they seek to meet. The minister will then publish the economic goal of each round as well as the eligibility criteria on the IRCC website.

The Canadian government has not confirmed which groupings will be chosen. They will likely be based on factors such as work experience, educational background, or proficiency in one of Canada’s official languages. For example, they may hold a round of invitations issued to only French-speakers, or to candidates with experience in a particular occupation in demand.

When will the next Express Entry draw be?

The expected next Canada express entry draw prediction is November 9th, 2022. According to IRCC, Express Entry draws are held on a bi-weekly basis on Wednesday afternoons.
